The 'Labor Day' actress admits that she never experienced sexism in film industry and says that the discussion about pay gap should remain private because 'it's a bit vulgar.'

AceShowbiz - Unlike Jennifer Lawrence who wrote an essay about sex-based pay gap in film industry, Kate Winslet opted to evade the issue. In a recent interview with BBC Newsbeat, the "Labor Day" actress called the discussion about the issue "vulgar."
"I'm having such a problem with these conversations," Kate told the news outlet. The Oscar winner admitted that her decision not to talk about the issue might be influenced by British cultural values. "I understand why they are coming up. But maybe it's a British thing - I don't like talking about money. It's a bit vulgar isn't it?"
Furthermore, the 40-year-old actress argued that the discussion about sex-based pay gap should not be brought to public. "I don't think that's a very nice conversation to have publicly at all," Kate said. "I'm quite surprised by these conversations to be honest, simply because it seems quite a strange thing to be discussing out in the open like that."
"I am a very lucky woman and I'm quite happy with how things are ticking along," Kate says of her experience in the film industry so far. When asked whether or not she experienced sexism in the industry, she said, "Honestly no. And if I'd ever been in that situation I would have either dealt with it or removed myself from it. I find all this quite uncomfortable." She continued, "I haven't ever felt that I've really had to stick up for myself just because I'm a woman."
