'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Is 'Man of Steel 2', According to Zack Snyder
Movie

The director thinks the upcoming 'Batman v Superman' is a sequel to the 2013 'Man of Steel' as the trailers address events seen in the standalone Superman film.

AceShowbiz - The likelihood of Henry Cavill getting another standalone Superman movie doesn't look all too promising. Zack Snyder says "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is essentially a sequel to 2013's "Man of Steel".

"I think in a way 'Batman v Superman' is 'Man of Steel 2'," the 49-year-old director replied when asked about a possible standalone sequel. "Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It'd be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be."

Speaking of the upcoming two-part "Justice League" movie, Zack said, "We really have to figure out the why of them. And I think that we have. That's the one thing that's cool to me about 'Batman v Superman', it's all about the mythology of these two massive icons. And I think that's compelling."

Zack's comments fit in with the general narrative around "Dawn of Justice", including its direct follow-up to Superman's destructive first two major battles in "Man of Steel". The main villain is a classic Superman baddie, Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). The "Dawn of Justice" trailers even seem to link the two movies together.

Henry would probably disagree with Zack. Back in July, the actor said "Dawn of Justice" wasn't "Man of Steel" sequel. He told EW, "As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel. It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to 'Justice League', and an expansion of the world that was created in 'Man of Steel'."

Henry seemed optimistic that Superman could get a standalone sequel in the future. "There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels," he shared, "He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on March 25, 2016.
