Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara's Challenging Love Highlighted in First 'Carol' Trailer
Movie

The first official trailer for the lesbian drama sees how Carol's (Blanchett) marriage and her husband become obstacles in her relationship with Therese (Mara).

AceShowbiz - The Weinstein Company has dropped the first full trailer for romantic period drama "Carol". Set in 1950s, the story captures the depth of the love between Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett) and Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), and the obstacles that they face.

The movie is based on Patricia Highsmith's 1952 novella "The Price of Salt" which follows Carol, an alluring woman trapped in a failing marriage. When she meets Therese, a 20-year-old girl working at a department store, an immediate connection sparks between them. The innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection quickly deepens.

When Carol's involvement with Therese comes to light, Carol's husband retaliates by challenging her competence as a mother. And as Carol and Therese take refuge on the road, leaving their respective lives behind, a confrontation emerges that will test each woman's assumptions about herself and commitments to one another.

Kyle Chandler plays Carol's husband, with Sarah Paulson, Cory Michael Smith, John Magaro and Carrie Brownstein taking on supporting roles. The lesbian drama directed by Todd Haynes has been touted as potential Oscar contender following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the London Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival. It will hit selected theaters in the U.S. on November 20.
