'I don't respect your statement because of the anger that came with it,' Cyrus says, commenting on Minaj's rant after her 'Anaconda' was excluded from VMAs' Video of the Year category.

AceShowbiz - Miley Cyrus wasn't impressed by Nicki Minaj's rants about her "Anaconda" being snubbed in the Video of the Year category at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The former Disney star weighed in on the raptress and Taylor Swift's brief Twitter war over the complaint when she discussed her upcoming hosting gig at the prize-giving event in a new interview with The New York Times.

"She was saying that everyone was white and blonde that got nominated, I heard? And then Taylor Swift butted in," Cyrus said, checking if what she heard about the Minaj/Swift feud was true because she "didn't follow" the whole thing.

"You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to - that's a yoga mantra," she continued. "People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don't respect your statement because of the anger that came with it."

Of Minaj's accusation that she was snubbed because of racism, Cyrus thought that the Young Money first lady didn't really speak out on behalf of other black female artists when she made the complaint.

"It's not anger like, 'Guys, I'm frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a b***h, but that's like, 'Eh, I didn't get my VMA,' " she argued. "If you want to make it about race, there's a way you could do that. But don't make it just about yourself. Say: 'This is the reason why I think it's important to be nominated. There's girls everywhere with this body type.' "

Deeming Minaj's statement "not too kind" and "not very polite," Cyrus added, "I think there's a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don't have to start this pop star against pop star war... It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn't even on what you wanted it to be about. Now you've just given E! News 'Catfight! Taylor and Nicki Go at It.' "

In the interview with New York Times, Cyrus also teased what to expect from this year's VMAs, which is airing live on Sunday, August 30. The 22-year-old singer additionally addressed controversies surrounding her 2013 VMA performance with Robin Thicke. "He acted like he didn't know that was going to happen. And he was actually the one that approved my outfit," she said of the "Blurred Lines" hitmaker.
