The 'Marvel's Agent Carter' star wants to play a female version of the iconic character, which has always been played by a white man.

AceShowbiz - Hayley Atwell recently shared one of her dream roles, and it could be a history should it happen. The actress, best known for her portrayal of Peggy Carter on TV series "Marvel's Agent Carter" and Marvel movies, revealed she would like to play Doctor Who.

"I'd like to BE Doctor Who," she simply responded to a fan asking on Twitter if she'd like to appear on the long-running sci-fi series. Perhaps, the show's writers and producers can consider the 33-year-old beauty when they want to cast the next Doctor Who.

The iconic character has always been played by a white man, with Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of the Doctor. He will return for the ninth season set to premiere September 19 on BBC America.

Showrunner Steven Moffat previously said he's open to the possibility of introducing a female Doctor Who. "It's been consciously part of my approach to 'Doctor Who' is not just implanting the continuity that it can happen - which is demonstrated with the Master turning into Missy - but also to have female characters who get a bit Doctor-y," he told Zap2it.

Jenna-Louise Coleman who portrays the Doctor's current companion Clara also supported the idea of a female lead on "Doctor Who", saying, "I'm sure it will happen at some point. I think it's just about casting the right actor."
