The 'Homeland' alum plays an ambitious hedge fund king who goes head-to-head with Paul Giamatti's U.S. Attorney character who is hell bent on uncovering frauds in the financial business.

AceShowbiz - Money, power and ego are the most prominent things on Showtime's new series "Billions". In a new trailer for the show, Damian Lewis squares off with Paul Giamatti who plays an opposing character, but both of them are driven by their respective goals.

Lewis is Bobby "Axe" Axelrod, a brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, while Giamatti stars as hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades. Axe defies the law in chasing the American dream, as Rhoades is hot on his trail to uncover his frauds in the financial business.

The show is dubbed a bold, contemporary drama that melds the worlds of ultra-wealth, influence and corruption. Set amongst the Machiavellian machinations of New York City power politics and finance, "Billions" weaves a complex, intricate narrative featuring a high-stakes game of predator-versus-prey.

Written and executive produced by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, "Billions" also stars Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile and Condola Rashad. Neil Burger directed the pilot and serves as executive producer.

At the TCA summer press tour on Tuesday, August 11, Levien said of the two opposing figures on the show, "One guy represents one thing in a way, and the other guy is trying to police it. But both are driven by individual things in their personalities and their pasts, and our interest was in trying to sort of get past those preconceived notions into something that we feel is more true and interesting."

The 12-episode first season of the Wall Street drama is set to premiere Sunday, January 17 at 10 P.M. ET/PT on Showtime.
