Stewart supports Schumer's decision to turn down offer to be his successor and talks with the comedienne about her support for gun control after the 'Trainwreck' shooting.

AceShowbiz - Jon Stewart began his final week on "The Daily Show" on Monday, August 3 with Amy Schumer as his guest. Praising the comedienne as "an actress-star," he said she made the right decision to pass on the chance to replace Stewart as "The Daily Show" host.

"I feel like your comedy is informed, it comes from a place of real intentions, and a show like this would have been so good for you," he said. "But I hadn't seen your movie at that point...you're like an actress-star."

Stewart then asked Schumer about her reaction to the tragic shooting at a "Trainwreck" showing in Lousiana last month. "Man, what a bummer," she admitted, "I was legit heartbroken to get that news." Still, she was able to crack a joke as saying, "I got a call, and I had a lot of missed calls, so I assumed there was a sex tape of me out or something." She continued, "To hear that news, it broke my heart. It was so horrible."

Schumer has since teamed up with Sen. Chuck Schumer, her uncle, to call for stricter gun control. "I did a press conference this morning with Sen. Schumer, whom I'm related to," she shared, "The second this happened, you want to act. I wanted to go down there and do whatever I could."

Stewart couldn't help mentioning Schumer's pictures with Jennifer Lawrence during their recent vacation. "It's the last person you want to be next to," she jokingly said of the Oscar-winning actress. "All the pictures we took of us, I look like her coach."

Stewart will next welcome Denis Leary on August 4, and Louis C.K. on August 5, before saying goodbye to his audience on August 6.

January Jones, who enjoys watching the show, recently commented on Stewart's impending departure. "I was a watcher and I've been on the show, and I think he's making a huge mistake," she told E! News at the Oceana SeaChange Summer Party over the weekend. "We need him."

Jon Hamm also paid tribute to Stewart, "I love that they're doing a lot of retrospectives of all his ridiculous work but it shouldn't be overlooked that he's had a pretty profound impact on political discussions and intelligence in political discussion in a time where it's seemingly devolving into screaming and who can be the loudest, sometimes. I think the most important thing that he's brought to the table-not just funny but intelligent."

John Oliver, who was previously a Senior British Correspondent on the Comedy Central series, credited Stewart for his show "Last Week Tonight" success. "He's such an influential presence in my life," Oliver told EW. "Especially right now - I can't really imagine my life without him in it. It's hard to overstate - I wouldn't be sitting in this country if it wasn't for him, you know?"

Calling Stewart "one of the funniest people who have done television in the last two decades," Oliver thought that no one had ever done "this version of comedy on television" better than Stewart. "I don.t think there has ever been anyone better, and I don.t think there ever will be anyone better," he added.

Of Stewart's future about "The Daily Show", Oliver jokingly said, "I want to see him become the official King of New Jersey. I think New Jersey would probably move to a monarchy - it would be him and Springsteen duking it out, War of the Roses style."
