AceShowbiz - After Toronto International Film Festival announced its 2015 lineup, Venice Film Festival unwraps its own movie selection for this year's event. The disaster thriller "Everest (2015)" starring the likes of Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, and Jake Gyllenhaal is the opening treat.

It includes Martin Scorsese's short movie "The Audition" which is supported by Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Robert De Niro. It also screens crime movie "Black Mass" starring Johnny Depp and "Spotlight" led by Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo about a Roman Catholic clergy sexual abuse scandal.

Competing for the top Golden Lion prize are Cary Fukunaga's "Beasts of No Nation" starring Idris Elba, Tom Hooper's "The Danish Girl" that sees Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as transgender woman, and Drake Doremus' romantic sci-fier "Equals" starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult.

"The program is very varied," said the festival artistic director Alberto Barbera. "The line-up goes from small films which are almost experimental to documentaries and great auteur films as well as great films which seek to innovate the forms used in contemporary cinema ... All in all, there's a bit of everything."

The festival will take place from September 2 to 12. Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity") will head the jury that includes Elizabeth Banks and Diane Kruger.
