NBC Renews David Duchovny's 'Aquarius' for Season 2

The network is pleased with the performance of the period drama on its digital platforms following the release of the entire first season on May 28.

AceShowbiz - The investigation continues on "Aquarius". The period drama starring David Duchovny has scored a second season renewal from NBC, while the first season is currently still airing on the network.

"With its riveting drama and innovative release strategy, 'Aquarius' has excited the critics, hooked millions of viewers and energized our summer," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke when announcing the show's renewal.

"It's no secret that the way people watch television is evolving, so we took a unique approach to how we delivered 'Aquarius', and it's driven some record numbers for NBC Digital and helped us reach viewers who might have otherwise overlooked a great summer drama."

NBC released the first full season of "Aquarius" on its digital platforms, following the show's two-hour network premiere on May 28. Utilizing the model applied by streaming servives like Netflix and Hulu, NBC allows viewers to binge-watch the show.

The series about the hunt for Charles Manson draws an average of 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.8 million total viewers. The network, however, is pleased with positive responses to the digital release. The show has become the second most-viewed drama premiere ever on NBC.com and the NBC App, behind "The Blacklist".

Besides "Aquarius", lead actor David Duchovny is going to star on "The X-Files" revival on the network.
