'Titanic' Composer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash, Celebs Pay Tribute on Twitter

The Oscar-winning film composer passed away at the age of 61 after the small aircraft he was piloting crashed into a remote area about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, California.

AceShowbiz - James Horner, the film composer known for his heart-touching scores for "Titanic", passed away at the age of 61 in a plane crash in Southern California on Monday morning, June 22. The news was confirmed by his assistant, Sylvia Patrycja, on her Facebook post.

Patrycja wrote, "A great tragedy has struck my family today, and I will not be around for a while. I would like some privacy and time to heal. We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved." At the end of her status, she thanked people who had expressed their support following the loss. "Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road. Love Sylvia," she added.

The prolific composer who also scored "Aliens", "Avatar", "Braveheart", "A Beautiful Mind" and "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" was piloting the small aircraft when it crashed into a remote area around 60 miles north of Santa Barbara. He was alone on the S-312 Tucano MK1 with two seats. The identity of the pilot was not initially known but later it was confirmed by his assistant.

Jay Cooper, a lawyer for Horner's family, confirmed the plane was one of some aircrafts that the composer owned. Horner was also said a trained pilot.

Following the news of his death, many celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute to the Oscar-winning composer. Josh Groban whose song titled "Remember Me" was composed by Horner wrote, "He wrote me a song that has such special meaning to me. We'll always remember you, James. RIP. #genius." He also attached YouTube link to the said song which was a soundtrack of "Troy".

Kirstie Alley who starred in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" which composition was made by Horner tweeted, "I"m so sad to hear about James Horner..He scored the first movie I did..Star Trek 2...great composer..great person...huge loss." Seth MacFarlane who was a fan of Horner's work tweeted, "Incredibly saddened to hear about the loss of James Horner. I grew up loving his work. He leaves behind a spectacular musical legacy." Rob Lowe wrote, "There is nothing that shaped my movie-going experience more than the musical genius of James Horner. He will live on through the ages."

Ron Howard called Horner a "brilliant composer" and offered his condolences to the family. The tweet read, "Brilliant Composer James Horner, friend & collaborator on 7 movies has tragically died in a plane crash. My heart aches for his loved ones." The actor of "The Box", Richard Kelly, was sad that the 61-year-old film composer passed away as he wrote, "James Horner helped define my love of cinema as a child. One of the greatest film composers of all time. So tragic if he is gone."
