The 'Cast Away' star is in talks to star in Clint Eastwood's film about a pilot who became a national hero after saving the lives of 155 passengers from an accident.

AceShowbiz - Tom Hanks is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to play Captain Chesley Sullenberger in Clint Eastwood's "Sully", according to Deadline. The biopic is based on the book entitled "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters" written by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

Earlier this month, Sullenberger, whose story is being highlighted in the movie, said in an interview, "I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall." He added, "The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team."

"Sully" follows Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who became a national hero after miraculously landing a crippled U.S. Airways Flight 1549 in New York's Hudson River. His plane began to malfunction shortly after takeoff and he was forced to take drastic measures in order to save the lives of 155 passengers.

Eastwood will also produce the film alongside Frank Marshall while the screenplay is written by Todd Komarnicki. "Sully" is slated for a release in the U.S. in 2017.

Hanks, who was last seen in 2013's "Saving Mr. Banks", will soon be starring in Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies", and is currently filming "Inferno", in which he will reprise his role as Robert Langdon.
