A&E has ordered a fourth and fifth seasons of the thriller series, with production on the new episodes slated to start later this year.

AceShowbiz - A&E is not planning to tear down "Bates Motel" anytime soon. In fact, the network has ordered two more season of the drama thriller, bringing the show to a fifth season. Both seasons will consist of 10 episodes each, with production on the fourth season scheduled to begin later this year while the new season is set to air in 2016.

"The vision of our incredible creative team has exposed the steady breakdown of the relationship between Norman and Norma Bates," said Rob Sharenow, exec vice president and general manager of A&E and Lifetime. "We are thrilled to bring fans two more seasons to witness the next stages of Norman's transformation into the most notorious psychopath in cinematic history."

"Bates Motel" is still one of the top-rated ad-supported cable series although its ratings declined in its third season. The show, which serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film "Psycho", averaged about a 1.3 rating in adults 18-49 and three million viewers overall.

Series co-creator Kerry Ehrin previously told Variety that she planned to end the show after five seasons. "From the end of the first season, Carlton [Cuse, executive producer] and I both had the exact same instinct of five seasons," she said, adding that she had "a very specific" and "beautiful" endgame in mind.

In other news, A&E has decided not to order a second season for "The Returned", which was created by Cuse. The supernatural drama, which was a remake of French series "Les Revenants", was never a hit on the cable channel, averaging a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 and about 1.8 million viewers overall.
