AceShowbiz - "The Craft" is another cult classic getting remade. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is currently developing a new version of the 1996 supernatural thriller. They have tapped budding horror filmmaker Leigh Janiak to direct it.
Janiak will also co-write the script with Phil Graziadei, whom she previously worked with for her breakout feature "Honeymoon". Doug Wick, the producer of the original "The Craft", will produce the remake along with Lucy Fisher, who was vice chairman of Columbia when the first movie was made.
1996's "The Craft" was directed by Andrew Fleming and written by Fleming and Peter Filardi. It follows a teenage girl named Sarah (Robin Tunney) who, after her family moves to San Francisco, finds herself joining a group of Catholic School girls who practice witchcraft. They all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who even slightly anger them.
Also starring Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True, the film raked in $55 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.
