Julio Iglesias Receives Honorary Degree From Berklee College of Music

Iglesias and other music industry figures including Doug Morris, Harvey Mason and Dee Dee Bridgewater received the honorary degree due to their achievements and influences in music.

AceShowbiz - Julio Iglesias received an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston. The music college awarded the Spanish singer-songwriter an honorary doctorate of music on Saturday, May 9.

Iglesias has produced more than 80 albums throughout his career. He became one of the top 10 best-selling artists in the world after his records were sold more than 300 million copies. He also broke two Guiness world records with the first being set in 1983 for having sold the most records in the most various languages in history. Meanwhile, the second, the best-selling male Latin artist record, was set in 2013.

The college also awarded the same honorary degree to three other prominent figures in music industry including Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, drummer Harvey Mason and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Dee Dee Bridgewater.

The honorary doctorate recipients of this year were chosen based on "their achievements and influences in music, and for their enduring contributions to American and international culture."

On the commencement eve ahead of the main event, some of the college students paid tribute to the recipients by performing music related to their career at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. Both the concert and the ceremony were not open for public.

Iglesias joined past honorees that included Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Steven Tyler, Loretta Lynn, David Bowie, Willie Nelson and Placido Domingo.
