Ruffalo, who plays Hulk in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', speaks up to defend the director amidst the issue of backlash from feminists after the removal of his Twitter account.

AceShowbiz - Amidst the speculation that backlash from feminists was the reason behind Joss Whedon's decision to quit Twitter this week, Mark Ruffalo spoke up to defend the director. The actor, who plays Hulk in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", denied that rumor by saying that the 50-year-old director wanted to focus on future work.

During his Reddit AMA session on Wednesday, May 6, the actor said that the director was "an advocate for women" and "a deeply committed feminist." He expressed his concern over the opinion that the director tried to weaken Black Widow in that film.

Ruffalo also wrote, "I think it's sad. Because I know how Joss feels about women, and I know that he's made it a point to create strong female characters. I think part of the problem is that people are frustrated that they want to see more women, doing more things, in superhero movies, and because we don't have as many women as we should yet, they're very, very sensitive to every single storyline that comes up right now. But I think what's beautiful about what Joss did with Black Widow - I don't think he makes her any weaker, he just brings this idea of love to a superhero, and I think that's beautiful."

There were a lot of comments directed to Whedon expressing their dissatisfaction with the movie, creating heated discussion on social media. Some people argued that Black Widow looked weak in that movie, causing backlash from feminists. Others pointed out a number of plot details considered to create justified harassment in the film.

Whedon removed his Twitter account on Monday, May 4. After he quit the social media, he explained to Buzzfeed that he found Twitter addicting and, consequently, distracting. The director expressed that he wanted to concentrate on his new project.
