'John Wick' Sequel Gets Greenlight With Keanu Reeves Reprising His Role

The 'Man of Tai Chi' actor will return to lead the second 'John Wick' movie along with the original directors and screenwriter.

AceShowbiz - "John Wick" is getting a sequel with the original team coming back. Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as the titular hit man, directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will return behind the lens, and screenwriter Derek Kolstad will provide the script again.

"With such tremendous fan and critical support for 'John Wick,' we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell," said Jason Constantine, Lionsgate's President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. "We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around."

The original movie was supported by Michael Nyqvist, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, and Willem Dafoe. Made on a modest budget of $20 million, it has raked in over $78 million worldwide since it made its way out in October 2014. It's unclear if any other original cast will return for the second one.

What the sequel might entail is also still scarce. "We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It's the matter of story and how much you like the character. That's always the most important," Stahelski said to Movies.com back in February. "So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we'll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome."
