Lady GaGa to Be Honored With First Icon Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Hall Of Fame President and CEO Linda Moran says the 'Applause' singer inspired the award, which is given to an artist 'who has attained an iconic status in pop culture.'

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa will be honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The singer is set to receive the first ever Contemporary Icon Award at the 46th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame event taking place on June 19 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan.

According to a statement released by the hall on Thursday, April 23, the award is given to a songwriter "who has attained an iconic status in pop culture." In addition to performing, GaGa wrote some of her most iconic hits, including "Poker Face", "Just Dance" and "Applause".

Hall Of Fame President and CEO Linda Moran commented on the award, "It could be said that this honor was created with Lady GaGa in mind. She has enjoyed monumental popularity on the charts, on radio, TV and the Internet, not to mention the continuous press coverage she has generated."

"She is a consistent hit maker who has surprised everyone by proving to be as adept with the great standards as she is with her own songs. We at SHOF are particularly proud that Lady GaGa performed at one of our songwriter showcases when she was still known as Stefani Germanotta," Moran continued.

GaGa joins other honorees including Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry who are going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Van Morrison will receive the Johnny Mercer Award and Fun.'s Nate Ruess will receive the Hal David Starlight Award.
