Movie

The video shows older Brian being threatened by psychiatrist Dr. Eugene Landy to cut off his relationship with his wife Melinda Ledbetter.

AceShowbiz - Full trailer for "Love & Mercy", a Brian Wilson biopic starring Paul Dano and John Cusack as the Beach Boys leader, has been released. Arriving online on Tuesday, April 14, the video shows Brian's love story with his wife Melinda Ledbetter, played by Elizabeth Banks.

The approximately two-and-a-half-minute video opens with older Bryan, played by John, first meeting with Melinda, his future wife, at a car dealership. The pair are then introduced by psychiatrist Dr. Eugene Landy, played by Paul Giamatti.

At various points, Dr. Eugene is seen trying to manipulate Brian. He forbids Brian from eating a sandwich, telling him, "You are not hungry, you think you're hungry!" The psychiatrist also does everything to keep Brian and Melinda apart.

At one point, Dr. Eugene tells Melinda, "If you want to continue to see him, you should know Brian is a very very sick man." Brian tells Melinda that Dr. Eugene is his "legal guardian" who is "protecting" him. But she sees the psychiatrist is "over medicating" Brian.

Dr. Eugene later tells Melinda that she "will not be able to see" Brian anymore. When she replies, "You can't do that Gene," Dr. Eugene says, "Yes, I can."

Later, Melinda tells Brian that she's going to "walk away" from him. When Brian asks Dr. Eugene why he cannot be with Melinda, the psychiatrist replies, "For the same reason you can't be with anybody."

At the end of the clip, Melinda is heard telling Brian, "You need to get back to your life. Even me, we're going to walk on you right now. And everything will change."

Directed by Bill Pohlad with a script from Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner, the movie is scheduled to be released in limited U.S. theaters on June 5.
