Executive producer Brian Grazer says that the cult comedy series will return with 17 new episodes.

AceShowbiz - A new season of "Arrested Development" is in the works, so executive producer Brian Grazer claims. In a newly released interview, he assures fans that the cult comedy will be coming back with more new episodes.

"I love 'Arrested Development', but it was never a huge thing. But people are loyal to it," Grazer said on the "B.S. Report" podcast which was taped last month at SXSW. "We're going to do another 17 episodes, so stay tuned for 'Arrested Development'."

However, 20th Century Fox which produces the show said nothing had been set in stone about a new season of "Arrested Development". "Everyone involved has expressed a desire to do more episodes, but we have nothing firm to announce at this time," a rep for the studio said.

Netflix, which released the fourth season of "Arrested Development", refused to comment on the new episodes and it's unclear if the streaming service will pick up the new season.

Back in May 2013, the company's CEO Reed Hastings said Netflix's interested in new season of the comedy, saying, "If the talent were willing to do more... I'm sure we would be willing." However, there seemed to be no progress in their talks with the show's producer.

Created by Mitch Hurwitz, "Arrested Development" follows the Bluths, a formerly wealthy, habitually dysfunctional family. The show ran for third seasons on FOX before it was canceled in 2006.

The original main cast including Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi and Michael Cera returned when Netflix revived the show for a fourth season in 2013.
