Ryan Reynolds Reveals 'Deadpool' Rating in Hilarious April's Fool Video

In the spirit of April's Fool Day, Reynolds and Mario Lopez tricked fans into believing that the movie would be family-friendly.

AceShowbiz - Ryan Reynolds talked about "Deadpool" during what seemed to be a satellite interview with Mario Lopez. The "Extra" host asked the actor whether or not the motor-mouth superhero would be toned down in order to appeal to family audience.

While Reynolds who had always wanted to make an R-rated movie for the superhero adaptation seemed to be reluctant to answer Lopez's question, he did previously drop hints on Twitter that 20th Century Fox would go for a PG-13 rating.

"#deadpool - So we make the blood green. (Views expressed here are mine - not necessarily those of adorable, taint-punchers releasing films)," he tweeted. "A PG-13 #deadpool will still have 4th wall breaking, a shit-ton of action and at least 3 chimichangas. Zero need to panic. I promise."

When Lopez started rambling about the benefits of PG-13 rating and going on about "a billion reasons to make a family-friendly movie," the masked hero appeared and knocked the presenter down. "It's okay Jessie, Slater can't hurt you anymore," he said, referring to the host's "Saved by the Bell" days.

The actor later followed it with a tweet, "February 12th. There will be blood. Guns. F-bombs. And graphic, expertly lit French Unicorn sex. #deadpoolRatedR @deadpoolmovie #Aprilpools."

The April's Fool Day video was actually filmed by the two on the movie set in Vancouver. Reynolds said there would be some similarities between his superhero character Wade Wilson and his "National Lampoon" character Van Wilder. "There are little pangs of Van, I think in our friend Wade Wilson," he explained.

In a separate chat with British newspaper The Independent, Reynolds said the R-rated movie would be made on shoestring budget. "It's not like an X-Men movie where there's this gigantic budget," he revealed. "It's quite a small film. It's very difficult to weave that character into other comic movies. He knows he's in a comic book. If he met Wolverine, he'd greet him as Hugh Jackman. It's tough to create a meta-universe within another universe that doesn't have any of those components."

"Deadpool" tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Reynolds is joined by Morena Baccarin who will play Vanessa a.k.a. Copycat, T.J. Miller who will portray Reynolds' on-screen buddy Weasel, and Brianna Hildebrand who is cast as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Gina Carano and Ed Skrein are also among the cast. Directed by Tim Miller, it's due in the U.S. on February 12, 2016.
