AceShowbiz - Much contrary to earlier report, the upcoming "Rings" will be a sequel. The film's director F. Javier Gutierrez has officially confirmed the matter via Twitter. "Hey peeps, #Rings is NOT a prequel, the story takes place 13 years after #TheRing:)," so read his tweet earlier this week.

Gutierrez also shared an update on the film's production stage via his Instagram. "On the way to set #Rings #TheRing #movie #SamaraMorgan #Paramount #principalphotography #Atlanta," so he captioned a pic that confirmed the start of the film's principal photography in Atlanta and that Samara would be present in the plot.
The confirmation was made hot on the heels of Alex Roe's casting as the horror feature's male lead. The actor's character was said to have been watching The Tape. "Alex Roe, welcome on board #Rings #TheRing #movie #SamaraMorgan #Paramount #preproduction #Atlanta #itsnotaprequel," so Gutierrez announced via a post on his Instagram.
Earlier this month, it was reported that "Rings" would be a prequel to "The Ring". According to sources, the film would be set "years before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara's reign of terror" to undercover "as to why Samara is evil to begin with."
