AceShowbiz - Karla Mosley who plays Maya, the character outed as transgender in "The Bold and the Beautiful" shocking twist, talks about the revelation. "At first I was shocked and then I said, 'Thank you', because obviously as an actress, it's an incredible thing to play," she told CBS News. "It's brave. It's brave of CBS. We're excited and we're standing behind it and we feel that it's important."
In a separate interview with USA Today, Mosley said, "My first reaction was surprise, because 10 or 20 years ago, this is not a story we would be telling, and not in a way that's truthful and not sensational. My second reaction was, 'Thank you.' It's a gift it's a privilege. It's a real opportunity to educate our viewers here and all over the world."
Bradley Bell, executive producer and head writer, furthermore stated, "It is about people respecting other people's differences and their uniqueness. In the end, we all want to be loved, and in order to love someone else you first have to love yourself. If you are transgender, gay, straight, it doesn't matter. It's about finding love in life. This is a love story."
Maya who has been played by Mosley on the CBS long-running daytime drama for more than two years was revealed as transgender in a heated argument with her sister Nicole portrayed by Reign Edwards. "You're not my sister, Maya. You're not Maya at all," said Nicole. "You're Myron, my brother."
