The Los Angeles-born musician passed away at the age of 67 on Wednesday, March 11 after losing his battle with metastatic melanoma.

AceShowbiz - Jimmy Greenspoon, the keyboardist for Three Dog Night, passed away on Wednesday, March 11 at his home in North Potomac, Maryland after losing his battle with metastic melanoma, a type of skin cancer. He was 67.

Three Dog Night paid tribute to Jimmy in a statement posted alongside the keyboardist's photo on Facebook. "We are very saddened at the passing of our dear friend and longtime band mate, Jimmy Greenspoon. Jimmy died peacefully at home today surrounded by his family. Please keep him and his loved ones in your prayers and your hearts," the band wrote.

The band's co-founders and vocalists Danny Hutton and Cory Wells also remembered Jimmy. Danny said, "He was like a brother to me. I knew him since he was just a teenager, and he was my oldest friend in the band. Also, Jimmy was a critical part of our early history, bringing a sound to the band that helped develop our style; he left an indelible mark."

Cory, meanwhile, said, "I will be forever shattered by his death. Jimmy cared so much about excellence in the music and always made sure we had what we needed on stage and in the recording studio. I was amazed by his photographic memory, his love for music. I will miss my fellow Aquarian brother and will keep him in my heart forever."

Jimmy joined Three Dog Night in 1968 and had been working with the band until last October, when he took a medical leave of absence after being diagnosed with metastatic melanoma.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Susie, his daughter Heather Miller and two granddaughters. According to the band, services for Jimmy are still pending. The band plans to continue their touring schedule with a keyboardist who replaced Jimmy during his medical leave.
