The Captain Jack Sparrow depicter has flown back to the U.S. to get surgery after injuring his hand in Australia for 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'.

AceShowbiz - Johnny Depp suffered an injury to his hand while in Australia over the weekend for the filming of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". The actor is now returning to the U.S. to have a surgery.

A spokesperson for Disney confirmed the injury. A source tells TheWrap that Depp was not on set or working when he injured his hand. How the Captain Jack Sparrow depicter hurt himself is still unknown.

The source adds production is expected to be "minimally impacted" though Depp has to leave Australia where the movie is being filmed and return to the U.S. for surgery. Disney's spokesperson also states that the movie is still on track for a July 7, 2017 release.

The fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie kicked off the principal photography last month and is expected to wrap up the production this summer. Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning are serving as directors with a script provided by Jeff Nathanson.

In addition to Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally and Stephen Graham will return as Barbossa, Joshamee and Scrum respectively. Javier Bardem is tapped to portray the villain, Captain Salazar, while Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Golshifteh Farahani are on board for supporting roles.
