The 'Sound of Music' lead actor says he didn't attend the Academy Awards over the weekend because it would have made him look like a 'prick.'

AceShowbiz - Christopher Plummer explains his absence from the Academy Awards which honored Julie Andrews. The 85-year-old actor says he skipped the Oscars ceremony because he didn't want to steal spotlight from his "Sound of Music" co-star.

''I couldn't be there for personal reasons," he said to PEOPLE, "and secondly I didn't want to. It was really a tribute to Julie. It's her movie. It's a terrible phrase we have in England but if I had appeared there I would have looked like a spare prick at a wedding. That's the most perfect description of how I would have looked."

Plummer, however, watched the show from the comfort of his home. "I thought Lady GaGa sang absolutely wonderfully. She knows how to do two styles. She knows the old way and and she knows the new way and she was so faithful to the style of the story and the song," he praised the Mother Monster. He added, "Julie looked terrific. I was thrilled it was a tribute to her and so it should be."

The duo will reunite in Hollywood next month to kick off the TCM Classic Film Festival with the screening of their classic movie.
