AceShowbiz - "Birdman" dominates the 30th annual Independent Spirit Awards one day before the movie's biggest night at the Academy Awards. The superhero satire from director Alejandro G. Inarritu collects at least three prizes including the coveted Best Feature. It beats "Boyhood", "Love Is Strange", "Selma", and "Whiplash".
The lead actor Michael Keaton takes home the title of Best Male Lead, pushing aside fellow contenders Andre Benjamin a.k.a. Andre 3000 of OutKast ("Jimi: All Is by My Side"), Jake Gyllenhaal ("Nightcrawler"), John Lithgow ("Love Is Strange"), and David Oyelowo ("Selma").
"Birdman" also grabs the Best Cinematography, thanks to Emmanuel Lubezki's brilliant work. It beat "The Immigrant", "It Felt Like Love", "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night", and once again the Martin Luther King Jr. flick "Selma".
Best Director goes to Richard Linklater for "Boyhood", Best Female Lead to Julianne Moore for "Still Alice", Best Supporting Female to Patricia Arquette also for "Boyhood", and Best Supporting Male to J.K. Simmons for "Whiplash".
