'Dia de Los Muertos' Speculated to Be Pixar's First Musical
Movie

After the project was announced in 2012, new info about the untitled movie about Mexican holiday to honor the dead emerges.

AceShowbiz - New information about an untitled Pixar Movie about the Dia de los Muertos has emerged. There had been little to no updates about the movie after it was announced in 2012, but a recent interview with musician Randy Newman suggested that the upcoming project directed by "Toy Story 3" helmer Lee Unkrich could be Pixar's first feature-length musical.

News about the company's first musical was shared by Newman in an interview with Classic FM. During the chat, Newman opened up about his relationship with the studio and Unkrich, saying, "I'm not so sure I don't have a reputation for being a little trouble. Lee Unkrich isn't going to use me, I don't think."

"And not only that, Lee Unkrich had 'Toy Story 3' temped with my music and it was limiting to me. It was fine, the movie did great and everything and maybe I'm wrong and if I look back on it I won't know the difference, but it didn't fit hand in glove the way I would have tried to do. And he fell in love with the temp, very much so," he continued, before adding, "Now he's not going to use me to work with him again. He's doing a musical now."

The "Dia de los Muertos" movie, which is confirmed to be an original story, was introduced during the CinemaCon in 2012. "From director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson, the filmmaking team behind the Academy Award-winning 'Toy Story 3', comes a wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Dia de los Muertos," read the announcement. So far, no info regarding the release date or cast members is available.
