The 'Batman Forever' actor reportedly refused to get medical treatment until recently because of his Christian Science beliefs.

AceShowbiz - Val Kilmer has previously denied he had throat tumor or tumor surgery, but his family believes he is in denial over his worsening health because of his Christian Science beliefs, TMZ reports. According to the site, the family says Val knew about the tumor since last summer.

When the family urged him to get medical treatment, he refused it because of his faith. The family says the "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" actor "shunned medical treatment and anyone who persisted got cut out of his life." Followers of Christian Science believe sickness can only be treated by prayer.

According to the family, Val "would never confess to pain because it was an admission that prayer didn't work." It wasn't until Monday, January 26 that he went to hospital because he started coughing up blood. According to the site, the family is "hopeful" because last week's scare has made the 55-year-old actor more receptive to treatment.

On early Monday, February 2, Val posted a lengthy message on Facebook, slamming USA Today for its report that the actor's representative Liz Rosenberg confirmed that Val was undergoing test for a possible tumor.
