AceShowbiz - One construction worker died following an accident on the set of Martin Scorsese's "Silence" in Taipei, Taiwan. As reported by Variety, Taipei City Construction Management Office says the accident took place at the Chinese Culture and Movie Center on Thursday, January 29 at 10 A.M. local time. The worker was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Two other people are injured in the accident.

"Today there was an unfortunate accident at CMPC Studios in Taiwan, where the Martin Scorsese film, 'Silence', is in pre-production," read a statement from the film's spokesperson to Deadline. "An existing structure on the CMPC backlot had been deemed unsafe by the production, and accordingly a 3rd-party contractor was hired to reinforce and make it safe prior to any production-related work commencing in this building."

"Sadly, during this process, the ceiling collapsed, resulting in the death of one of the contractor's employees and injuries to two others. Everyone is in shock and sorrow and expresses their deepest concern and sympathy to the families of the individual who died and those who were injured," the statement continued.

"Silence" is a movie about 17th century Jesuit priests who are facing violence and prosecutions when traveling to Japan to spread the gospel of Christianity and locate their mentor. It stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson among others, and is set for release in the U.S. on November 1.
