Johnny Depp Jokes He Was Attacked by 'Chupacabra' After Fighting Illness in Tokyo

The 'Mortdecai' actor says he came face to face with 'a very rarely seen or experienced animal' on his first day of press tour in the capital of Japan.

AceShowbiz - Johnny Depp says he just recovered from an illness, which forced him to skip a press conference in Tokyo to promote his new movie "Mortdecai". When showing up at a press tour in the capital of Japan the next day, he jokingly explains he had to fight a sinister creature to be able to speak to the reporters.

"I was attacked yesterday morning by a very rarely seen or experienced animal called 'chupacabra,' " the actor jokes. "I fought with it for hours. They're very persistent, very mean. And I'm pretty sure it came into my suitcase. I threw him off the 23rd floor. So we'll never see him again. Thank you for understanding."

When asked what his character would do if he was in the room, Depp says as quoted by The Associated Press, "He would probably say something like 'How do you do?'. My name is Charlie Mortdecai and I've come here to take as much money from you as I possibly can. and jewelry, and art, and stuff.' "

In "Mortdecai", Johnny Depp plays an eccentric art dealer. He shares screen with Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany, and Jeff Goldblum. It was released in North America on January 23 and will be available in Japanese theaters starting February 6.
