'Birdman' and 'Lego Movie' Win 2015 PGA Awards in Movie

The Michael Keaton-starring film wins Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, while the 'Lego Movie' takes the prize for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures.

AceShowbiz - The winners, both TV and movie, for Producers Guild of America Awards were celebrated at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Saturday, January 24. Superhero satire "Birdman" and animated blockbuster "The Lego Movie" were among the winners in movie categories at the Los Angeles event.

"Birdman" won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, beating "American Sniper", "Boyhood", "Foxcatcher", "Gone Girl", "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "The imitation Game", "Nightcrawler", "The Theory of Everything", and "Whiplash".

Meanwhile, "The Lego Movie" grabbed the Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures, a consolation after being snubbed at the nominations of the Academy Awards. The film pushed aside "Big Hero 6", "The Book of Life", "The Boxtrolls", and "How to Train Your Dragon 2".

Another prize in the movie field, the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures, was handed to "Life Itself" which won the battle against "Merchants of Doubt", "The Green Prince", "Particle Fever", and "Virunga".

Special honorees included Brad Pitt (Visionary Award), "The Normal Heart" (Stanley Kramer Award), Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer (Milestone Award), and "The Walking Dead" producer Gale Ann Hurd (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures).
