AceShowbiz - Netflix is entering indie movie business. The company has signed a deal with Jay and Mark Duplass, the co-creators of HBO's "Togetherness", to fund their four films which will later premiere on the streaming service after a limited theater run.
"This is just the latest step in our very long relationship with the Duplass Brothers," Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told Deadline. "We've been working with them almost since the very beginning, when we were red-envelope delivery."
"Independent film has always been a big part of Netflix, and the reason we do things like the Adam Sandler deal is so we can do things like this as well." The difference is, the Sandler films will debut exclusively on the streaming platform.
The Duplass brothers have produced movies like "The Skeleton Twins". This year, they have at least four films playing at Sundance Film Festival. "The Bronze" starring Melissa Rauch and "The Overnight" starring Taylor Schilling are among them.
