AceShowbiz - "In the Heart of the Sea" will arrive later than expected. Initially planned for a March 13, 2015, release, the action-adventure movie starring Chris Hemsworth has been pushed back nine months. It is now slated to open in U.S. theaters during the awards season, on December 11.

To fill the vacated slot, Liam Neeson-starring "Run All Night" which was originally slated for April 17 in now set to arrive on March 13. Also scheduled for release on the same date are Disney's "Cinderella" and Paramount's "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension".

"In the Heart of the Sea" is based on Nathaniel Philbrick's 2000 book "In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex" about the real-life maritime disaster that would inspire Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance.

The upcoming film depicts the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

Chris Hemsworth portrays the vessel's veteran first mate Owen Chase, with Cillian Murphy, Benjamin Walker and Ben Whishaw also among the cast. Ron Howard directed the pic with the script provided by Charles Leavitt.
