The follow-up to 2000's 'Voodoo' features 12 tracks including 'Sugah Daddy' which was premiered over the weekend and collaborations with Questlove and Q-Tip among others.

AceShowbiz - D'Angelo's first album in more than a decade is finally out. Titled "Black Messiah", the effort was announced just a few days before it was made available for purchase on iTunes and for streaming on Spotify on Monday, December 15 at midnight.

"Black Messiah" is D'Angelo's first full-length since 2000's "Voodoo" and only his third in his 20-year career. It features 12 new tracks which were debuted at a New York City listening session sponsored by Red Bull Music Academy and Afropunk on Sunday evening. The event was hosted by author Nelson George.

Among those 12 records were "Sugah Daddy" which was premiered over the weekend and its official first single "Really Love" that's scheduled to hit radio on Monday morning. The album also includes contributions from Questlove of The Roots, Q-Tip and Kendra Foster of Funkadelic.

"Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be misunderstood. Many will think it's about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah," D'Angelo explained the LP's title in a lyric booklet passed out at the Sunday event.

"For me, the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah," he added.
