Matt Damon Confirms Return to 'Bourne' Franchise

The Jason Bourne depicter reveals the upcoming installment is plotted for 2016 release and Paul Greengrass will indeed be back at the helm.

AceShowbiz - The rumblings that suggested Matt Damon would reprise his role as Jason Bourne in a new movie turns out to be true. It was the actor's pal Ben Affleck who first brought up the subject at the recent celebratory event of their "Project Greenlight" before Damon confirmed it.

"Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So...," Affleck spilled the beans to E! Online. When asked to clarify, Damon said, "Yes, next year, but the movie will come out in 2016. Paul Greengrass the director, is doing another one and that's all I've ever said. I just needed him to say yes."

After three movies, Damon was replaced by Jeremy Renner as the lead actor in 2012's "The Bourne Legacy". Renner starred as a new character Aaron Cross. A sequel starring Renner was initially planned for July 16, 2016, but the date is now reportedly locked for the new movie starring Damon. Renner is expected to return in a separate film at a later date.

During a recent interview, Renner hinted at a possible crossover. He believed his character and Damon's Jason Bourne would be crossing paths in a future film if both were kept alive. "I think they'll be separate movies, and then the idea is for us to either team up, or be adversaries," so he said.
