AceShowbiz - The nominees for the 2015 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. The list revealed on Thursday, October 9 features first-time nominees including Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Withers. Sting, who was inducted 11 years ago as a member of The Police, is nominated for the first time for his solo work.

To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, artists have to have released their first single or album over 25 years ago. Green Day's "1000 Hours" EP arrived in spring of 1989. Nine Inch Nails's first album "Pretty Hate Machine" came in fall the same year.

Other potential inductees are repeat nominees like N.W.A., The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, The Spinners, War and Lou Reed. The latter, who died last year, already has a place in the Hall, entering 18 years ago for his work with The Velvet Underground.

More than 700 artists, music industry professionals and historians will decide who will be inducted. Public can participate in the process by casting votes through December 9 at the official Rock Hall site.

The winners will be announced in December and inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, on April 18.
