A source close to Amanda's family said that her parents 'truly believed' that their daughter 'was doing well based on the first and second semesters' grades.'

AceShowbiz - Amanda Bynes's parents reportedly "truly believed" she was doing well prior to her recent DUI arrest. A source close to Amanda's family told E! Online, "[Her parents] truly believed Amanda was doing well based on the first and second semesters' grades, which were stellar."

The source said that her parents, who managed a conservatorship of Amanda's estate, sensed something different after the conservatorship ended on September 10. "The first signs of problems came days after the conservatorship ended," shared the source, adding that her parents did not receive any information about troubles their daughter might have at school since then.

When asked whether Amanda's parents could manage her legal and medical affairs again in the future, the source replied, "Once [the conservatorship] has ended, it's a 'hard expire.' That means the process has to start again. Well, the process cannot start again with just a DUI. It's going to require a 5150- [psych hold] type situation again. [Amanda] is not there yet."

According to the source, Amanda's parents are now "keeping close tabs on [Amanda] through various people. They are monitoring her whereabouts, her spending and her driving as best as they can. Essentially she was able to mask her poor grades and downward spiral from them. They wanted to believe she was being honest and getting better."

Amanda was arrested for DUI on Sunday morning, September 28 after stopping her car in the middle of an intersection at Van Nuys, California. Following the arrest, Amanda's father Rick Bynes told an X17Online videographer that he didn't know her daughter's whereabouts. He said, "We know nothing about this. We were called by the press. I'm getting calls all day long. That's all I know."
