The exhibition titled 'David Bowie Is' which is set to take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago features 400 items related to the singer.

AceShowbiz - David Bowie exhibition is coming to Chicago next week. The event titled "David Bowie Is", which so far is the only stop in the U.S., will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art starting from September 23 to January 4, 2015 and will display 400 artifacts related to the iconic musician's career including various costumes.

"We've over the years always peppered our exhibition schedule with shows that were outside of the fine-art realm, and so this fits in that pattern," said Michael Darling, MCA chief curator. "There's so much of a performance program that's part of our identity, too. I think this really shows him to be a consummate artist, rather than just looking for the hippest collaborators. It's much deeper than that."

The multi-media exhibition was first held in London and curated by Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh. Since then, it has been brought to Toronto, Brazil and Berlin. The upcoming visits include Paris and the Netherlands.

In an interview on Friday, September 19, Marsh shared that he hoped people would feel inspired after visiting the exhibitions. "That's really what we really wanted to bring out - is the nature of creativity," he said, as quoted by Reuters. "One of the things David always says is, 'Don't copy me, don't look at me. Look inside yourself.' "

Bowie, however, is not expected to attend the opening. "We're really not expecting that. But we're quite hopeful that his curiosity will get to him and he'll come out here some time during the show so we'll try to be ready for that if and when it happens," Darling explained.
