The long-gestating 'X-Men' spin-off finally is moving forward with Ryan Reynolds expected to star.

AceShowbiz - It has been sometime since fans heard of the "Deadpool" project. Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Comics announced on Thursday, September 18 that the "X-Men" spin-off would hit theaters on February 12, 2016.

Tim Miller will direct the pic while Ryan Reynolds is expected to reprise his role in the stand-alone film. The actor has been long rumored to star but no deal is in place. Back in July he responded to the leaked test footage of "Deadpool" which was quickly pulled down by 20th Century Fox.

"The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually," Reynolds told the Niagara Falls Review. "And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."

Deadpool aka Wade Wilson is a talkative mercenary with the ability to heal rapidly. The character appeared in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" but the rumor that he was to get a solo movie dated way back. "Deadpool" will now come out three months before "X-Men: Apocalypse".
