The 'Lawless' actor will star opposite Alec Baldwin in the revival of Lyle Kessler's 1983 play about a young thief named Treat.

AceShowbiz - After deciding to quit blockbuster film world and focus more on gritty independent films, Shia LaBeouf will also expand his acting career to Broadway. The former leading man of the "Transformers" film franchise is set to make his stage debut through a revival of Lyle Kessler's play called "Orphans".
Representatives of the "Orphans" producers announced the news on Tuesday, December 11, confirming that LaBeouf would star as a petty thief called Treat. He would star opposite Alec Baldwin, who was tapped to play an older gangster called Harold.
The original version was premiered in Los Angeles back in 1983. Treat was an orphaned thief who supported his mentally ill little brother. One day, Treat kidnapped Harold and he soon realized that he might have found a father figure he'd been longing for. The part of Treat's younger brother is still vacant until now.
While LaBeouf would mark his first Broadway stint, Baldwin's no stranger to the stage world. He last performed on Broadway back in 2004, when he starred in the revival of "Twentieth Century" in the Roundabout Theatre Company.
The new version of "Orphans" will begin its preview on March 19, 2013 at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The show will hold its opening night on April 7.
