NBC Opens 2012 With Highest Overnight Rating in Sunday Night Football

The network drew a 7.0 rating among adults 18-49 demography during the football match between the Giants and Cowboys on Sunday night, January 1.

AceShowbiz - NBC kicked off the New Year with a bang. It's revealed on Monday, January 2 that the network led Fast National ratings on Sunday night by drawing a huge number of audience during the football game between the Giants and Cowboys, which ended with the former beating the latter with 31-14.

Through the Sunday night showdown, NBC posted its most-watched Sunday of the season by averaging a 7.0 rating among adults 18-49, leaving the other networks far behind. The second-best ratings that night belonged to CBS which took in 2.3 rating in the same demo.

At 8 P.M., NBC drew 22.33 million viewers and posted a 7.6 rating among adults 18-49 when the Dallas-New York football game kicked off. In the next hour, the network moved up its audience to 25.62 million and its key demo to an 8.9 rating when the Cowboys faced off the Giants.

Overall, NBC registered a 17.1 overnight rating and a 27 share, which was 36|percent| higher than last year's week 17 game between the Rams and the Seahawks. According to The Nielsen Company, it gave the network its highest overnight rating in the six-year history of Sunday Night Football.

Additionally, the ratings on the January 1 became the best overnight performance for any NFL primetime Sunday or Monday game in 13 years and marked the best overnight rating for an NFL primetime regular-season final game in 17 years.
