Morbius Could Be New 'Spider-Man 4' Villain
Movie

Director Sam Raimi sparked rumor about the possible villain for 'Spider-Man 4', when he mentioned the name of villainous vampire, Morbius.

AceShowbiz - While it still isn't clear which evil characters will be set against Spider-Man in "Spider-Man 4", the name of supervillain Morbius has come up to the surface. In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, director Sam Raimi hinted on his choice of the superhero's nemesis, saying, "I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius."

Explaining why he would love to see the antagonist character in the interview with the magazine, the 49-year-old filmmaker confessed that he thought Morbius is "really cool" since the character created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane is a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease and instead transformed himself into supervillain with a vampire-like powers. "He's really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural," so he claimed.

With The Lizard also rumored to be another "Spider-Man 4" villain, there is a chance that Morbius will be seen in the fourth installment of the web-slinging superhero. One of the reasons was pointed out by Slash Film stating that the two baddies "use the same technology but have different animals involved in their research...one having blended with a lizard, the other a vampire bat." Another one came from the fact that Morbius' storyline is connected to The Lizard's in the comic books.

"Spider-Man 4" has been reported to be shot back-to-back with "Spider-Man 5". It will see once again the teaming up of director-actor, Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire. Produced by Avi Arad, Grant Curtis and Laura Ziskin, the script will be provided by David Lindsay-Abaire, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright for 2006's Broadway stage production "Rabbit Hole". The superhero movie itself is slated for 2011 release.
