there is something half-satisfying and pacifying about Hubie Halloween. In true content-blurring Netflix fashion, Sandler has essentially made a likable children's movie to babysit undemanding adults
the film isn't without its funny moments, as there are bits and lines that get real laughs, but it also finds Adam Sandler doubling down hard on his old shtick, and save for the inclusion of some cute Easter eggs it just feels tired
one of the good ones; Silly, overstuffed and as sweet as anything Adam Sandler has done, Hubie Halloween is a full jack-o'-lantern in which the chocolates you hoped for far outnumber the butterscotch tooth-breakers
it's an awful feature from start to finish, made all the worse by the distant memory of “Uncut Gems” and its magnificent use of Sandler's unique screen presence
it's also an undeniable disappointment, after the fine-tuned freneticism of "Uncut Gems", to witness Adam Sandler back in sloppy comedy mode, with a hectic but virtually laugh-free horror-themed caper
