sensitively written and staged (by Rodrigo Garcia) and performed with lacerating honesty by its two leads; "Four Good Days" is based on a true story, and the way it plays out is both watchable and plausible. Yet the movie doesn't shake us to our souls
it showcases the heartbreaking ravages of addiction in a way that hasn't happened since "Requiem For A Dream". "Ben Is Back" tells a similar story, but I feel like "Four Good Days" is much more in your face with its message
even with two strong lead performances, "Four Good Days" feels awfully well-worn; Close and Kunis manage to form a realistic and affecting mom-daughter bond; But good though they are, the actors can't overcome the grating tidiness of the movie's script
a tired and trialed tale of drug addiction, and the devastating decisions made to conquer it; Like many addiction movies, their calculation subtracts more than adds to its emotional center. It's a shame that with these actors, it all feels done before
"Four Good Days" is well-intentioned & acted, but a formulaic addiction drama; As a performer's showcase, "Four Good Days" does the job. But there's not much to see here otherwise
