The Forest doesn't know if it's a supernatural thriller, a story about repressed childhood darkness, or an eerie doppelganger mystery. It fails to fully become any of them, and ends up missing the forest for the trees

by Christian Holub [Entertainment Weekly ]
it works on one level but leaves so much on the sideline, especially when it comes to its kooky real-life setting
by Brian Truitt [USA Today ]
despite its setting and its setup, "The Forest" never establishes the sense of dread that should come naturally to it
by Bill Goodykoontz [Arizona Republic ]
"The Forest" is full of bad ideas
by Stephen Whitty [Newark Star-Ledger ]
"The Forest" has a tight structure and keeps you off-balance by sticking with the point of view of its increasingly bewildered lead character
by Kyle Smith [New York Post ]
