woke witchcraft sequel is smart but messy; A long-awaited follow-up to the much-loved 1996 teen horror offers some interesting ideas but, with a brisk runtime, feels overstuffed
this witchy movie is messy & forgettable; "The Craft: Legacy" excels when reveling in its girl power witchcraft, but falls apart in the third act without a well-developed villain
it may not win over the generation that grew up with the 1996 film, but the coven in "Legacy" is likely aspirational and affable enough to reel in the new generation for which this was made
by the end of "Legacy", each of the witches has become less interesting and less distinct

a clever sequel that understands the film's legacy and is all too happy to thrust into a brave new world; The result is an entertaining and insightful mashup of tropes, both respectful of what came before and willing to try new tricks
"The Craft: Legacy" is a smart, edgy, wickedly funny and wild ride from the talented director Zoe Lister-Jones; It brings the supernatural movie thrills galore but also intelligently and respectfully explores a number of timely and relevant issues
