the Anna Sewell classic rides again, to lethargic effect; While Kate Winslet's presence is always welcome, the voiceover that blankets the film proves tediously redundant, failing to enliven this dramatically flat production
Mackenzie Foy does what she can and there are enough nice horses for equine enthusiasts to have a ball, but everyone else might find it pretty embarrassing
Kate Winslet's voice actually makes Black Beauty less of a character; For anybody who has seen the story of Black Beauty before, or is simply too old for it, the new version will likely be little more than a Thanksgiving Weekend distraction
I'm not saying this is a bad film but I'm not going to say it's an award winner either; "Black Beauty" is one of those films that is just okay and somewhere between hit or miss
