Taylor Dayne Biography

news-detailsWhen the name Taylor Dayne is mentioned, right away the time frame goes to the '80s where 'Tell It to My Heart' became the most frequent song to be blasted from boom boxes. Twenty years after, the name is not yet exhausted from the rub of time. The disco icon is back with her solo record 'Satisfied' that released its first single, 'Beautiful' to no longer big hair era beats but wild anthem and a twist of contemporary pop. "It was time to roll up my sleeves, get back into the studio and show people I'm not done yet," Dayne said with a laugh. Talking about 'done', she rolled out a team that almost scarily awe any music fans who knows the drill. Taking Mike Mangini (Baha Men, O-Town), Peter Wade (Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna) and Rick Nowels (Stevie Nicks, Madonna), Dayne believes her new sound will capture her old fans the same way as the new ones. "My job as an artist is to make sure that I make the material I choose mine, by interpreting it my way," Dayne puts it. 'Satisfied' is in stores February 5, 2008.

Hailed from Baldwin Nassau Country, New York, Dayne whose real name is Lesli Wunderman was born on March 7, 1962. She grew up listening to rock bands like The Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and The Stones but also took her time in sipping a little Al Green and Marvin Gaye. Once graduated from High School at the age of 15, she joined little-known bands called 'Felony' and 'The Next'. Knowing that there's a bigger opportunity out there for her solo career, she introduced herself as Les Lee and released a single called 'I'm the One You Want' but it was in 1985 that she had the big break by meeting producer Ric Wake. Two years working hard, she came out with 'Tell It to My Heart' that amazingly became a perfect fit to the music taste at that time. Upon its release in 1987, Arista signed her immediately, leading to an album under the same name that was worked on within a matter of months due to the high demand. By 1988, Dayne was a huge pop star.

The success of 'Tell It to My Heart' was followed by other spawned singles such as 'Love Will Lead You Back' and the ballad 'I Will Always Love You'. Two Grammy Awards nominations were given to her in 1989 for both 'Tell It to My Heart' and 'I Will Always Love You'. Answering the market demand, the singer who was by then identified as Taylor Dayne, came up with her sophomore album just one year after the debut was released. 'Can't Fight Fate', although did not perform as well as its ancestor, was deemed a great follow up for her career. It was the fourth single from the album that marked the fading of her lime light. While all of her prior singles have entered the Top 10 on U.S. Hot 100, 'Heart of Stone' was stuck at #12. This led to further chart degradation of her next singles that were taken from her third album, 'Soul Dancing'. Released in 1993, the album spawned moderately successful singles such as 'Can't Get Enough of Your Life' and 'Send Me a Lover'.

Over the next two years, more singles from the album were released but none entered the Top 10. Dayne, therefore took a hiatus and left Arista in 1995 to start her own record company. In the same year she released a greatest hits where the remix of 'Tell It to My Heart' entered the U.K. Singles chart at #23 while working on her next album. Instead of a full-length album, Dayne filled in the year with a single called 'Original Sin' that was made the soundtrack to 1994 movie 'The Shadow'. It was two more years before she released 'Naked Without You' under her own label, Intention Music. The album might not be a big bang to her comeback career but it placed her as the queen of dance. Two singles from the album, 'Whatever You Want' and the title track peaked on the U.S. Dance chart at #6 and #3 respectively. Dayne meanwhile, transformed herself as a screen actress by enrolling in a couple of indie movies in 1997 titled 'Fool's Paradise' and 'Stag'.

In 1999, she was back with a one-off single called 'Planet Love' that was made a soundtrack to Joel Schumacher-directed movie 'Flawless' (1999) before taking another break to start a family. Through a surrogate mother, she was blessed with twins, a boy named Levi and a girl named Astaria who were born on December 30, 2001. She also took a more securing role for a film in 2004 and landed a deal to appear on Showtime series 'Rude Awakening'. In 2007 she came up with the announcement of a fifth studio album that was named 'Satisfied' after her cover of Lewis Taylor's song of the same name. "This is a rebirth for me," she said. "Call it what you want, but I'm back. We've baked the bread. Now it's time to eat it."
