Kygo Biography

news-detailsBorn Kyrre Gorvell-Dahll on September 11, 1991, Kygo is a Norwegian DJ/record producer who shot to fame with his remix of Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire" back in 2013. Raised by a father who works in maritime industry, Kygo lived and traveled with his family to Brazil, Japan, Kenya and Egypt during his younger years.

Kygo started composing music at the age of 15 or 16. He bought Logic Studio and a MIDI keyboard, and began producing electronic music with help of tutorials on YouTube after listening to Avicii's simple yet catchy melodies.

In 2014, Kygo scored a major record deal with Ultra Record. Since then, he started working on his singles. On December 1, 2014, Kygo released his first single "Firestone" featuring vocals from Conrad Sewell. The record gained international recognition and debuted at No. 8 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Song, marking his first biggest international hit.

After receiving over 80 million views on YouTube and SoundCloud, Kygo was contracted by Avicii and Coldplay's Chris Martin to create a remix of the band's "Midnight". He also supported Avicii at Findings Festival in Oslo in 2014 and replaced him at TomorrowWorld in the same year.

In February 2015, Kygo released a new song titled "ID" which served as the official anthem of the 2015 Ultra Music Festival. The tropical song was later featured on FIFA 16, a popular soccer video game by EA Sports. Kygo's second single "Stole the Show" featuring Parson James was released on March 23, 2015. The song debuted at No. 1 in some European countries including France, Norway, Sweden and Slovakia.

In the beginning of March 2016, Kygo officially announced and confirmed his debut studio album "Cloud Nine". Prior to releasing the record, he unleashed three promotional singles including "Fragile" featuring Labrinth, "Raging" featuring Kodaline and "I'm in Love" featuring James Vincent McMorrow.

"Cloud Nine" was officially released on May 13, 2016 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. The set features 15 tracks in total including collaborative tracks with John Legend, Foxes, RHODES and Julia Michaels among others. In support of his album, Kygo embarked on his first world tour which hit 22 cities across North America and Europe, including stops in New York City, Amsterdam and Paris.

In February 2017, Kygo released "It Ain't Me" featuring Selena Gomez. The song, which was released by Interscope Records/Ultra Music, serves as the first single from Kygo's upcoming second studio album. Co-written by Kygo, Gomez, Andrew Watt, Brian Lee and Ali Tamposi, the EDM song features an acoustic guitar line, synthesizers and pan flute melodies. A remix of the song was released on February 18, 2017 and featured actor Vin Diesel in the vocals.
