Dua Lipa Biography

news-detailsBorn and raised in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, Dua Lipa has always been familiar with music as her father, Dukagjin Lipa, is a singer. Lipa attended Sylvia Young Theater School until the age of 13, when she moved from London to Kosovo with her family. However, the move didn't last very long as she was back to London at the age of 15, living on her own and pursuing her singing career.

After posting several cover songs on YouTube at the age of 16, Lipa signed with Warner Music Group and began working on her debut album. In August 2015, she released her first single "New Love", which is produced by Emile Haynie and Andrew Wyatt. Lipa later premiered her second single "Be the One", which achieved an extreme success in some European countries including Belgium, Poland and Slovakia.

Lipa embarked on her first tour in the U.K. and Europe in January 2016 before releasing her third single "Last Dance", followed by "Hotter than Hell". Lipa earned her first entry on the U.S.' Billboard Hot 100 with her fifth single "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)", which debuted at No. 72 on the chart. Also in the same year, a documentary about Lipa entitled "See in Blue" was uploaded on YouTube by The Fader.

Following her success in the previous year, Lipa welcomed 2017 by releasing a collaboration with Martin Garrix titled "Scared to Be Lonely". The song peaked at No. 14 on U.K. music charts. Her self-titled debut solo album was released on June 2. Its sixth single, "New Rules", became Lipa's first No. 1 song in the U.K. and her best-selling single to date.

Her music aside, Lipa began dating Paul Klein, who is the frontman and lead vocalist of synthpop trio LANY. The couple first met at the British Summertime gigs in London's Hyde Park in 2017. However, the couple broke up in early 2018 after five months of dating.

Her breakup, fortunately, didn't affect her music career. She was dubbed the top nominee at the 2018 BRIT Awards, leading the pack with five nominations. Lipa became the first female musician to receive five nominations at the award show. Lipa is currently working on new material for her second album.

During her busy schedule to work on her sophomore album, Lipa attended the 2018 Brit Awards on February 21, when she was honored with British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. She also released a couple of standalone singles, including her collaboration with Calvin Harris, "One Kiss". Their collaboration sparked dating rumors between the two stars, but the record producer had denied the rumors by insisting that he would not date the singer due to their huge age gap.

The dating rumors aside, "One Kiss" was a hit among music lovers. The song topped U.K. Singles Chart for eight consecutive weeks and eventually became the biggest selling song of the year in the country. It additionally became the second longest-running No. 1 song of the century by a female artist behind only Rihanna's "Umbrella". In the United States itself, the song peaked at No. 26 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Lipa gave an update on her sophomore album later in May, saying that it would likely be released in the following year. As she continued to work on the material, Lipa performed at F1 Singapore Grand Prix in September and set the world record for the "most remixed song ever" due to her collaboration with car brand Jaguar. For their collaboration, they remixed her song "Want To" and invited fans to create their own version of the song on the Join the Pace website.

Later in October, Lipa released the deluxe version of her self-titled debut album that featured three new songs, including a collaboration with K-Pop group BLACKPINK entitled "Kiss and Make Up".

2019 started off great for Lipa. In February of that year, she won her first Grammy ever after receiving Best New Artist accolade. Her joint song with Mark Ronson and Diplo, "Electricity", additionally earned the singer Best Dance Recording during the ceremony.

Her personal life was once again put in the spotlight after that, when she was rumored to be dating Anwar Hadid. The couple never addressed their relationship, though they made their romance public when they were spotted kissing in July. The two made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on November 2, just days after Lipa released the first single off her sophomore effort, "Don't Start Now".
